Viktoria Modesta and her “Stereo Leg” designed by Alternative Limb Project. Photography by Rosemary Williams. ramp1885.com
“Creativity is not a talent; it's a way of operating.” - John Cleese.
Breathtaking pop artist, model, and amputee, Viktoria Modesta is challenging society to rethink what ‘disability’ means. Artist and designer, Michelle Vandy, who one day lost quite a bit of mobility in her arms, reteaches herself how to create beautiful digital illustrations by using her nose. Amy Purdy, at age 19, was diagnosed with Meningococcal Meningitis and had to amputate her legs below the knee. Amy challenged herself to move forward and is one of the top ranked adaptive snowboarders in the world.
What all three of these women have in common is the courage to not be afraid to fail. Each completely abandoned their comfort zone, challenging social constructs and inspiring others to take risks.
Exceptional innovation is accomplished by overcoming challenges and not letting the fear of failure stop you. Even if failure happens - it’s okay, it comes with retrospect, unparalleled knowledge, and wisdom.
To be truly innovative, ATOM looks above and beyond for inspiration, to expand our repertoire and equip ourselves to take on a challenge. Viktoria, Michelle, and Amy are outstanding examples of this type of inspiration, and we wanted to share the awesomeness that comes with taking risks and disrupting ‘the norm’.
