CHALLENGE

Convia, a Herman Miller Company, had developed a Sustainable Energy Infrastructure, one of the most advanced monitoring systems in the industry for tracking energy consumption in buildings ranging from single rooms to entire campuses. With the systems in place, it turned to ATOM to create a software application and design a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that would be engaging and present the endless harvested energy data in a systematic and graphical view.

SOLUTION

ATOM took the lead role in not only shaping the GUI and information display but programmed a sophisticated free standing software application that harvested essential energy usage data from a backend acquisition server. The team infused a Humanistic aspect to the GUI by integrating a Tree icon that expressed the visual status of the areas being monitored. Users could quickly and intuitively asses the “health” of their system based on predetermined ASHREA standards and thresholds.

RESULTS

The first installation was the United States Green Building Council headquarters in Washington D.C. The application now plays an instrumental role in corporations having their building become LEED®-certified.
