Reinvent the surgical glove and add intellectual property to it in 45 days. That was what ATOM was asked to do when they were approached by a physicians group. Studies have found that while surgeons operate on patients, they are putting themselves at increased risk of occupational hazards such as carpal tunnel syndrome, arm, shoulder, neck and back injuries.
Recognizing the need for an ergonomic surgical glove, the physician’s group wanted a product in a short time to present during a meeting with one of the world’s largest surgical glove manufactures.
ATOM took their idea and within 45 days developed an ergonomic surgical glove that included strain reduction design, ergonomic positioning for intrinsic relief, force unloading technology, web space technology, and digital expansion design for widening of P1 during flexion, programmable features, and a patent pending for a new solution in a very crowded patent space.
The client was able to go to one of the world’s leading surgical glove manufacturers and sign a licensing agreement for the product. The glove is now in the hands of surgeons throughout the world providing better outcomes for both themselves and their patients.
